“June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”…A Road Trip…And Flowers…But It’s March…

I know, I know…how can “June Be Bustin’ Out All Over”, when it is only March 1st???…I know it is confusing…but it’s true…I wish the song could have said, “Spring is bustin’ out all over”…that would have made it perfect…because “it is”…last weekend we went on a “road trip”…you know what one of those is…and if not I will tell you what it is for us…a road trip is anywhere you go that is far enough away from home that it takes at least and hour to get there and it is a break from normalcy…so off to Owensville, Arkansas on Saturday, February 26…it is a great trip, or “road trip”, I should say…it is about an hour away (so it “just” hit one criteria)…and it is a trip we take only a couple of times a year…(so, we hit a “home-run” concerning the “road trip” criteria)…I feel so warm inside just to say we were “spot on”…we go there to get “food” we can’t get here in the Mid-South…except there…and they ship it in from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois…and other places…we go there especially for Klement’s Thuringer…but other things too…

And yes, without question…”June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”…many of you don’t know that song…well, being a R an H junkie let me tell you…Oh, you got the R and H reference…I am really proud of you…Rogers and Hammerstein for those who didn’t…the song is from “Carousel”…considered a masterpiece by many…for me, not so much…great songs…like, well, “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”…”If I Loved You”…”You’ll Never Walk Alone”…”This Was A Real Nice Clambake”…and others…but even with such great music, the story is more than a bit depressing for a musical, though they tried to make it more hopeful toward the end…this was Rogers and Hammerstein’s second try on a musical…their first was a tremendous hit…”Oklahoma”…now that was some musical…but here is “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over”…it’s a long scene but shot all on location…amazing scene, no matter how many takes to complete it…

So though it is only March 1st…yet it might as well be spring…(okay, for those of you awake, you caught another Rogers and Hammerstein reference…a song from “State Fair”…another great musical and another great song, “It Might As Well Be Spring”…look it up on YouTube)…but it is true, spring is all around us in Arkansas…I hate to bring it up with some of you still have snow and cold…but I will talk about this as an encouragement that Spring is coming…on our “road trip” we saw so many things pointing to spring and in the last few days…there must be 8-10 different trees and bushes that are blooming…Bradford Pear trees are all over Little Rock and they are not out full but almost there…they are a beautiful white…and there are hundreds around the city…and Redbuds are beginning to bloom as well…they are red/pink as the name implies and are beautiful as well…the Tulip Magnolia with its tulip shaped flowers…daffodils and many other flowers…they are already out and showing their best…we love the early spring here in Arkansas…warm weather is wonderful…we know we can get some freak weather yet and tornadoes are always a threat in the spring…but as my Mom used to always say, “You have to take the bitter with the better.”…she was right…

I will major on the “better” on this post…well, really all of my posts…and will celebrate this wonderful spring season…they said on the news last night, how in Arkansas, they see March 1st as the official starting of spring, though the real starting of spring is still days away…but when we lived in Minnesota…it all evens out…because spring is still a ways away when March solstice comes…it all so relative I guess…but whether here or there or wherever you are…Spring is in the air…and Oh well, “It Might As Well Be Spring”…(don’t go to YouTube…I will send that song too)…keep looking for Spring…I see it out my window…
