106 Degrees…That’s Hot Where I Come From…

106 degrees, hot…that’s what that is…it’s hot…wait a minute, “Where I come from”… I am from where it is 106 degrees!!!…I must be crazy…now for those of you who have experienced this kind of hot…you know it is not like the Arizona hot…because the humidity is so high here in Arkansas…the dew point is about 75 degrees…which is tropical or oppressive…and with the 106 degrees actual temperature…they say is about 115 on the heat index scale…all I know is…it’s hot…

The kind of hot that when you step out into it…it is blast furnace hot…hotter than a “pepper sprout”, I think that is the way Johnny Cash sang it in “Jackson”….(Jackson, Mississippi, that is)…but he had it right…now he was singing about more than the heat…he was talking about emotion…new love…fresh love…emotional love…so here Johnny and June Carter, his wife singing that song…then I will finish this tome…

Why would I put those two things together???…the heat in Arkansas and love???…today is Judie and, well, it’s our 47 wedding  anniversary…August 3, 1963…didn’t know people could get that old did you???…and yes, I suppose we got married in a “fever, hotter than a pepper sprout”…but whatever, we did get married and it seems to have “taken”…we have had a great life together…our boys and now their wives and grandkids…all of that put together are wonderful…

Speaking of old…here are a couple of pictures 47 years apart…oh yes, the same people…just better…at least I think so…better for the journey and as the song goes:…”Wouldn’t take nothin’ for my journey now”…

But in the end it is the two of us…and what we have made of our lives…not perfect but certainly a great life together…we still love each other and love living together and sharing all the things that life brings…our faith in God and His leadership in our lives has been all important…and continues to be…

So how’s the hot where you live…here in Arkansas, on our anniversary, it’s hot but not so hot we are not enjoying all that this life offers…both hard and easy…as I say often, life is hard but life is good…we are enjoying the good everyday, so we are ready for the hard as it comes to us…

  1. Judie and Jim: Congratulations on 47 years. Yes it is hot and coming from Wisconsin, we do not tolerate heat very well. Remember we not older, just better. Ruth

  2. Just joined your blog. We live in southern West Virginia, just along the Virginia border. Our town, Bluefield, is called Nature’s Air Conditioned City. If the temperatures reach 90 degrees, free lemonade is served on the streets. Started in 1939, we reached 200 this summer and we are now at 202 servings. Are you in the mountains?

    • Welcome Wilma in WV…no we are not “in” the mountains…and we are certainly not an “air conditioned city”…for weeks now we have been in the high 90’s or low 100’s…and very high humidity…in the 70 degree dew points…that is tropical…so we are hot in Little Rock…and will be for the next few weeks…we turned on our a/c the last of May and have not been able to turn it off yet!!!…

Oh well, we still love it here…we have mountains all around us…the last of the Ozarks and the Ouachitas end around Little Rock…so we do have mountains but not high ones…but beautiful…no “flat” surfaces around here if you know what I mean…no straight roads…all up and down…I think you must have that where you are…will look up your town and area to see…thanks for your reply…Jim E
