How I feel…about politics that is…

We have a plaque on our kitchen window sill…it says, “GOD is in control”…this is better…here’s a picture:

I really believe that…though there are many times when I wonder…you know what I mean…when things happen that we don’t understand…or we don’t want to have happen…I know I ask myself…is anyone in control of this world???…but if you know me…I really do believe God is in control of all things…

After what has happened to this country in the last few days (now understand I could go back many years but for this post I will reference the last year)…but with the passing of this health care reform bill (which I will admit I am totally against in it’s present form)…I was upset and angry about “how” it was done and the dishonesty of what is in the bill…but all of that aside…you and I may ask…”Is God asleep on this thing or what???”…that is where I will take off in this post…let me start here:

Government elections are an opportunity for faith…Scriptures make it clear that it is wise to desire good leaders and to chose them if possible…but not depend on them…Psa. 118:8 “It is better to trust in the Lord that to put confidence in man.”…the outcome of political elections always serves the purpose of God…no candidate can receive what God Himself does not give…God is the One who promotes or removes every leader who has ever aspired to public office…

And whether an individual is a friend or enemy of the Eternal makes no difference…Sometimes the Lord gives leaders who strengthen the hand of the weak and the good…at other times God give us the leader that our sins deserve…once again His purpose is not to harm and destroy but to turn our hearts toward the heavens…

It is not always possible to tell whether we have been given a good leader or a bad one…only God Himself can see what is in the hearts of those who serve His purposes…but our inability to see what He sees is just one more reason to put our confidence in God alone…as we trust in the Lord…we honor our leaders whether we like them or not…

With that in mind…we are to pray for our leaders…so “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” I Tim. 2:2…In our country…we have the wonderful freedom to choose our leaders…we must take it seriously…we must choose good…to vote and pray for the good of all…and if we make a poor choice, we have the freedom to work and vote for a change…but regardless of the outcome we must show our confidence that God is in control and that no one can frustrate His purposes (even the leaders themselves)…that doesn’t mean we have to support our leaders but to put our trust in God…in the end it will be apparent that fleeting moments of turmoil or tranquility were all merely moments to come under the rule of the Lord of lords Himself…

As a person who has read some about history…behind the scenes in every political office are things that we know little about…and this administration is no different…we don’t know what is really being said apart from what the media is giving us…we don’t see the hearts and what God is doing in those hearts…we may never know but on the other hand we may know soon…things are never perfect at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave…or in the Capitol…so rest assured God is moving in the lives of those in charge…

I remember reading the book “Truman” by David McCullough, a great book…but reading all that happened when he was chosen by the Democratic party to be the vice-presidential candidate…if he had not been chosen to replace the then Vice President, we would have had a much different president when FDR died…and how it was done was unbelievable…only the hand of a mighty God could have “written” that scenario…God chooses and God takes away the powerful…

And we don’t really know what is going on right now in Washington…I wait in anticipation for what is coming next…but in our country we don’t need to just sit and wait…we can be involved with those who can bring about the things we want…I urge you to do so…God is in control…we can/need to trust Him and work for the things which will allow freedom to remain in this country…and pray that we put our full trust and faith in the God of glory…and try to follow His leading…and to turn our hearts toward the heavens…
