A Short Road Trip…It’s Spring!…

In case you haven’t noticed on your calendar…it’s Spring…wow…after a long winter and extra snow and cold, it’s Spring!!!…not everyone in the country is experiencing spring weather, I know that…but everyone HAS in the last few weeks had some spring…so it’s coming, though in “fits and starts”…(I don’t know if that is a phrase or not…but I love that phrase)…

Yes, fits and starts…you know the idea…a sudden flurry of activity…then a lull…and then often for no obvious reason…a sudden flurry of activity…fits and starts…that does describe this spring…well, probably every spring…

But it is Spring none the less…and I love spring here in Little Rock…let me put it another way…THERE IS SPRING IN LITTLE ROCK…and those of you from Minnesota know whereof I speak..’cause in Minnesota…there may be no spring…and summer is in question some years…now winter…that is a “for sure”…but here the thing that is to be loved is long spring…long fall…short winter…and HOT, HUMID summer…the summer, now that is not in the love category…it still is nice…but it is hot…and it is humid…and it is long…but I am not talking about summer here…IT’S SPRING…check out our Bradford Pear trees that are all over Little Rock…here is an example…

The birds know it is spring…Bluebirds are building their nest in our Bluebird box in the backyard…here our “male” in checking out our mailbox…so it is for sure, if the Bluebirds are in the mood and the Bradford Pear trees are okay with it…who are we to judge…

So with yesterday in the 70’s…and Jeremy had the day off work…we decided that it was the day to take a road trip…to see spring just beginning to bud…to see if there is a little “green” over the mountains and hills…

So we took a back country road to Owensville…that is the town that has a store that has some things from the midwest…those of you who follow this blog…may remember my Bean and Bacon soup and thuringer sandwich…so you may already know that we can’t get thuringer in AR…but the little country store in Owensville have a lot of stuff from “up north”…shipped in from Milwaukee, WI…our trip was a success…we got our thuringer and other such things…

On our way back we stopped at Wye Mountain (and it is on Wye Mountain)…like Owensville…and most towns in AR…they are very small…many don’t even have the proverbial “one stoplight”…most of the time, not even a stop sign…it is just outside of Little Rock, about 20 miles…a small Methodist church puts on a daffodil festival each year…and in AR the daffodils are up and blooming…here are some examples of the 7 acres of daffodils…

You will notice all the people out in the field…they sell all kinds of things at the entrance…food, quilts…all kinds of handmade things…but the major interest are the flowers…not pictured but in the center of things is an empty cross…and since it is almost Easter…many of the families who were there and will be out this weekend for the festival, were taking pictures of their kids and families all dressed in their best…Easter pictures…very nice…and as you can notice it was a picture perfect day…blue skies, about 73 degrees…a day which will be remembered…so beautiful…

Wish you were there with us…so many bushes and trees blooming and so many people enjoying the early spring…and looking forward to Easter…to new beginnings…new life…the resurrection…and for the Christian, represents new life in Christ…

So you enjoy every moment of today…It’s Spring!!!…

(How about another picture of Bradford Pears…you can never get enough of them…from a Wendy’s parking lot…I told you they are all over the place…thousands of them)…

  1. It may be spring in Little Rock, but it is winter in Springdale. We are suppose to get more snow in the night. It looks just like a winter wonderland now. We are planning on driving to Longview, TX tomorrow with Dick and Anne after SS. We will see what the roads are like.
