It’s Winter…Snow’s Coming…Duh…

Being from Minnesota originally…I find snow alerts to be a bit much…being it is winter…not that there is not danger associated with snow on the roads…and if cold comes too, there is legitimate caution that should be taken…but this, along with so many other catastrophes that they say are coming our way, is a little much…

Almost every week we are warned about a whole raft of dangers…Toyota this week, Chevy next week…the flu this season or that…anyway, they (whoever “they” are), are telling us we have this to fear or that to fear…and that we can “trust”…aah…we can “trust them” (whoever “them” are) to keep us safe…just pay a little more taxes or pass this bill or that…give this agency a little more power over our lives…whatever…come on, give us a little room to maneuver though this life…(it’s called freedom)…

So what we have today is a snow storm along the East coast…now remember, this has happened before…in fact, it happened earlier this year…and it will happen again, this year or some year…but you would think that the world is coming to an end…no question the warning needs to go out…but enough is enough…

We who live in AR had our winter “scare” a week ago…about 1-2 inches of snow and ice in Little Rock…now ice is a problem…snow doesn’t last any longer here than the East coast…our schools closed…and the few plows we have…went out…probably had to beg someone to drive them…gave them special awards I suppose…but the end result was…we made it through…some fools drove crazy and had problems…but most stayed put until it was over and the roads melted free of snow and ice…we made it…

Now in Minnesota it is a bit different…for the snow and cold…people have “been through this before”…and dress for it…drive with the weather in mind…and they, for the most part make it…when Minnesota gets one of these they bring out the real stuff…this would not be a 3 or 4 buckler…this would be a 5 buckle overshoe boot…14” tall…or maybe Choppers (below)…

The point being…we will make it through…using a little sense in our driving, when we will stay put, and when we will go out, how we will dress…but we will make it through this storm and others to come…so please give us a little credit…no more newscasters going into hysterics or weather forecasters hyperventilating about what immediate danger we are in…while we are in our heated homes…enjoying our downtime together and watching their antics on TV…and them trying to scare us into believing that without them we would not survive…Amazing…(and yes, we have enough bread and milk, thank you)…

  1. Thanks Jim. Enjoy your writings. So subscribed to your Blog. True about news casters – they get everyone all rilled up about one thing or another. I am glad we have them to rely on but oh my they do get dramatic!
